Most Christmas budgets are not spent on the big presents. They are spent on the long tail - the neighbour, the two teachers, the babysitter, the colleague whose name came out of the hat, the six stockings.
Under a tenner is where that list lives, and personalisation is the difference between a gift that reads as thoughtful and one that reads as obligatory.
What works at this price
Coasters
Genuinely underrated. A personalised coaster costs very little, posts cheaply, and lands well because it is specific to the person. The teacher and retirement designs in particular do the job that a card cannot.
Keyrings
Engraved keyrings are the most-used item on this list. Whatever else happens to a Christmas present, keys get carried every day.
Bottle openers
A personalised bottle opener is the safe Secret Santa gift - useful, unobjectionable, and it survives the office kitchen.
Shot glasses
Engraved shot glasses work well as a set for a household, or individually for a stocking.
How to make a cheap gift not feel cheap
- Use their actual name. Not Best Teacher - their name. It takes the gift out of the bulk-bought category instantly.
- Buy one good thing, not three filler things. A single engraved item beats a bag of novelties that go in the bin by January.
- Wrap it properly. The cheapest way to make a £7 gift look considered is decent paper.
Buying for a group
If you are buying for a whole staffroom or a team at work, pick one product and vary the name across all of them. It keeps the order simple, it looks deliberate rather than random, and nobody can compare theirs unfavourably to anyone else's.
Stocking fillers specifically
Stockings want small, flat and varied. Keyrings, coasters and openers all qualify. Save the larger items for under the tree - and if you need a sack to put those in, our Christmas range covers that too.
A note on timing
Small orders are still made to order, and the December bottleneck affects a £7 keyring exactly as much as a £30 gift. If you are buying a batch for a group, order it in one go in November rather than in dribs and drabs through December.
